What is Lockout Tagout?

Lockout Tagout or LOTO is a safety procedure to ensure safe work conditions, enforced by OSHA. [OSHA] "rule mandate that all employers establish energy control LOTO procedures" code 29 C.F.R. 1910.147(c)(1). LOTO is primarily used for commercial, industrial, and research settings. A LOTO procedure ensures the proper steps of shutting off machines that can cause harm to anyone during maintenance. 

Who is OSHA?

OSHA is short for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA was created to assure safe and healthful work environments, regulated by the Federal Government. OSHA enforces these standards and have various regulations concerning specific work conditions. If these conditions are not met, OSHA will fine and/or even shutdown facilities that are in direct violation.
